Handbook for implementation of curriculum

The partnership developed a handbook for the implementation of the curriculum which was divided into three sections.

Section 1: Training the Trainer

This chapter  assisted Adult Eduction providers to pass on the methodologies and pedagogical materials within their own organisation and within the Adult Education sector in their regions/countries. It looked into the selection of suitable trainers including assessing trainer competencies and supporting trainers with the implementation of the programme. The section  examine methods of assessing learner needs in relation to healthcare and using skills audits and benchmarking to develop a training programme drawing upon the bank of materials developed on the programme. It  also focuses on how to adapt material to individual contexts.

The handbook is  demonstrating the importance of using the knowledge of employers with the compiling of a bank of resources and knowledge as well as demonstrating methods for aiding trainers to involve employers in the training of learners. The train the trainer sessions provided an opportunity to discuss the learner needs in each country and to examine methods for adapting material to cater for different environments.

Section 2: Guide on how to develop materials and programmes

A a comprehensive guide in how to approach the development of programmes for Vocational Language support, including pedagogical materials and approaches.

It  firstly captured best practice and existing approaches in partner countries, demonstrate how materials which are finally selected for the project and adapted to the relevant labour market needs of particular sectors.

Section 3: Methodologies to support employer engagement

This section  looks at successful methods for ensuring employer support for the programme as well as techniques for making the most of any employer engagement to the benefit of participants, participating organisations and the employers themselves. The section exams methods for:

  • Identifying employers
  • Making the business case
  • Using employers as partners on language material development
  • Employers as placement/intern hosts
  • Building capacity with Employers
  • Best practice case studies
